Please recommend me a truck
Discussion
Hello All
Bit of a latecomer to the 'inspired by James May' brigade, but I have decided I want to have a go at modelling again.. Last time I tried it I was about 8 or 9 and made a complete mess of it and I have not tried it much since (I am 28 now).
I know it would probably be sensible to start with a cheap little car, but have ideas of beginning with a 1/24 scale truck. I am looking for a modern era one, preferably that I could build a trailer for at a later date.
Firstly, am I mad to try this with no previous experience?
Secondly, if not, then could you recommnend a couple which are relatively easy to start with.
I was planning on using rattle cans to apply the main colour for the body and chassis and then brush it from there - is this a sensible way forward?
Cheers
James
Oh, and budget is £40 max for the kit, as I will also have to buy paints etc on top of it.

I was in exactly the same position as you until a couple of weeks ago! Decided at the age of 39 to build a model, last one i built was at 8 years old!!
Bought one of the cheap £9.99 airfix starter car kits, a MK1 Escort! Comes complete with everything needed, paints, glues, brush etc, decided to spray the shell rather than brush also.
Really got the cheap one to see if i have the patience for modelling & if it doesn't turn out well, nothing lost!
I have really enjoyed it & it's turning out pretty good! Will post up a thread with some pics of the build stages when finished.

Take a look at some of these guys builds, also lots of good building tips.
Once you've built a couple of kits and feel your skills are improving go here for some detailing items to make the model look more realistic;

Thanks for help
I went onto Ebay last night looking for a starter set to have a go at first and got somewhat diverted from cars/trucks.
I am now awaiting delivery of a nice basic (skill level 1) Harrier GR3, and am forcing myself to wait until I have at least started it before buying the GR7, FRS and FA2.
Must resist.
