My partners dad is an enthusiastic model plane flyer and usually constructs his own from scratch. I was thinking of trying to get involved in the hobby and wondered if anyone on here participated in it? smile

I used to fly competetive aerobatics a few years ago, but gave up when they changed the rules with regard to what size plane and engines you could use, and it started to become really expensive to remain competetive.

Still got a load of gear, but haven't used any of it for a while.

Yes. Quite a few over the years. My current and most ambitious project is a fully autonomous drone. Features a triple axis gyro, triple axis accelerometer, temperature corrected absolute pressure sensor, airspeed sensor, 66ch GPS with 10Hz update, fully programmable autopilot, on-board two-way air-ground telemetry etc etc etc...

I've been flying since I was 12 Learnt to fly on a Peter Holland Tranquiliser (lovely parasol wing model).
Ive done a bit of display flying at Shuttleworth etc.

I havn't flown for a while though, I mainly fly simulators now to keep my hand in. I have Aerofly 5 and the realism is amazing, both in terms of graphics and physics. And you don't lose £2000 when you make a Yak 3m size hole in the deck.

I'm aiming on getting back into real flying this year, fancy something big and scale and using Lipo and a Benedini sound system.

Got back into the hobby 2 years ago after a 40 year break (built and flew c/l models as a kid) Wife bought me a Eco 8 heli after I expressed an interest After spending twice the price of the kit in radio and bits I found that I hadnt a hope in hells chance of keeping it in one piece. So interest now rekindled I bought a hobbyzone cub and thrashed it around untill I could reasonably prediced where it would go, then out of the spare parts now amassed I buit a second with ailerons and used the futaba system I had bought for the heli. With a lipo battery to improve performance I started to find I was getting there Next came the Stryker which I fly till its wrecked then £18 for a new fuse on my 4 th nowlaugh
Current hangar
Hobbyzone cub not flown much now
Parkzone Stryker
Parkzone Wildcat
Seagull Spacewalker 53in span
FMS Mustang 58in
Lander Cougar fast as f***
Eco 8 heli Getting the hang of hovering but came down heavy and broke a skid. Spares seem unobtainable frown
Blade MSR great bit of fun, can fly it anywhere round the house now, but a different matter outside even with no wind.

not yet, itching to do so, but I'm moving at the end of the month so it's sensible to keep boxed. They're not exactly small smile

I'll take some piccies when I do. I'm also going to detail it better, weather it, add black areas from guns, oil & exhaust

I find weathering is a natural process, helped by p*** poor landings, wrong model selection on the trannie, dead stick because you forgot to set the timer. Closing the tailgate on the wing gives a good "Just nursed the old crate back to base" effect laugh

Interestingly, a similar job was offered to a friend of the chap who is going to instruct me. They had found him due to listing 'Flying RC aircraft' as a hobby! Unfortunately they could not tell him too much apart from it being based in Iraq and that he'd be flying Predator drones eek Unfortunately he turned it down, don't know why as he was unemployed, single and had no living family so would be a great experience.

As is the case with this type of job very little detail can be given at first contact due to the sensitive nature of the work. This advert is 100% genuine and you will be deploying to an 'austere' environment.

I do R/C Helicopters, currently a Raptor 90 but I'm looking to get back into Aircraft too. There's something very exciting about making something that flies and you control. My big problem is I lack patience to do woodwork carefully so of course that means I find building quite frustrating at times.

Great fun hobby... get a plane, a gallon of fuel and get in the air!

Looking to get a capiche 180 for next year, taking a year out as 2nd child is due mid way this year and will have no time!

Personally I found using an flight sim a great way of keeping a hand in without freezing myself to death, its also a good way to learn. I have taught a fair few people to fly and this seems to be the easiest way of giving them experience.

Let me know if I can help with anything...
