Peugeot 107 Aircon

Hi all.
I've had my 107 7 months now and quite like the thing.
It has aircon, which was regassed when I purchased it and seems to work albeit with one problem and I want to know if this is normal.
The compressor will come on for around 20 seconds and then go off for around 10-15 seconds, then come on for 20 or so, and go off again.
I've asked this on Facebook and been told "that's how they are" but I'm not convinced so wanted to ask other owners.
Obviously when the compressor goes off, there is a difference in the temp of the air out the vents so it's obvious when driving when the compressor is on or off.
When stationery, you can hear it kicking in and out all the time, which I assumed wasn't normal as surely it would cause more wear on the compressor and belt kicking in and out all the time.
The aircon wasn't working when I purchased the car which was chased to a missing relay (think tbe garage had used it on another car) so that was sorted and it was gassed up, so I know its got refrigerant in it but should the compressor be kicking in and out like this?
