For a 1.6vti automatic, a 62 reg with just under 90000 and it is going to be scrapped because of the gearbox.
It is very jerky especially when warmed. It has already had a proper flush at a auto specialist and they also said they didn't think it would fix it, and it didn't.
For a rebuild it's £2500+ and simply not worth it.

Yes i could put a second hand one in but could be a bad and wouldn't till it was fitted.

I basically now have no gears and doing a "national scrap car" got a price of £190.
It is a lovely little car but that's it.

Yes i know most will say French crap etc etc yawn.

GIven you would have to spend more than the repair price for a newer replacement of unknown provenance ... it may be worth the cost!

Failure of the valve body is quite a common issue with the AL4 gearbox, and it's far cheaper to fix than an overhaul. Think it should be DIY'able for someone fairly competent, but even at a garage it shouldn't be massive money.

Don't write the car off if it's otherwise good for the sake of giving it a try.

My wife had three on the trot, over nine years.

All perfect and all good fun.

100% agree. I haven't done that specific job (although the youtube video is extremely well shot and it's clearly straight-forward). Valve body work is very simple, they're easy to work on and not full of complex bits that need reassembly.

The only thing to remember is that the box and valve body are very messy in terms of oil dribbling everywhere; get some good sheeting under the car, make sure you have a nice clean work bench and plenty of cleaning supplies to hand.

Edit: Oh, and make sure you can get the fill plug out of the gearbox before you pull the drain plug!

Thanks for the links etc; I know it is generally a nice small car. I have been looking at stuff on yt and think I saw the one where the body gets taken off and cleaned.
I will see what happens now then, 2 solenoids (genuine) are about £110 oil (the right stuff just don't remember the name) about £85.

It is pulling things off ie bumper, radiator etc to get to the front of the box. The garage i use wouldn't do it so would need to do it myself.
