205 GTI windscreen rust

Hi, i have a 205 GTI (Red) of which has rust around the bottom corner of the windscreen. It looks horrible for a start, and im worried about it spreading (although its pretty big at the moment). Does anyone have any tips about fixing this to do it on the cheap but do it properly?
Never taken a screen out - which i suppose is required?
