Hi,
Would anyone be able to confirm what type of aircon gas would be used in a Dec 88 build Turbo R?

I am suspecting it would have been R12 unless converted to R134a later?

Thanks,

Al

Surely you're not going to have a choice, you'll have to get it converted to R134a if it hasn't already been converted?

Indeed, but if R12 originally and there isn't any documentation to show a conversion to R134a at some stage the system needs to not only be de-gassed but disconnected and disabled for import into Australia, ie. a hose or the compressor removed.

If it was R134a originally then no issue, and it would explain why there would be no documentation of a conversion.

Ah, ok. Fingers crossed for R134a for you.

Hi , I also have a query regarding air conditioning : I have a Turbo R ( late 1990 ) and although the aircon is sufficiently cold at the moment , it is running R12 .

I would very much like to update it to R134a , but am unsure of the procedure .

I wonder if I might call upon your experience in the conversion and also is R134a the ideal gas to use

I think the replacement is RS24.

The R134a is not directly compatible. Same as my Lotus.

Thanks, will go the de-gas and disable route in that case.

There is an HC R12 compatible gas marketed here as Hychill that I can use to have the system refilled after clearance that I have used in my S1 Jag Xj6 to good results previously, so no biggy, no conversion needed. Not sure what it would be marketed as in the US but worth a look as it's a direct replacement for R12 with no seal/valve etc replacement required.
