I’m looking at a variety of options at the moment, either a 1920s / 1930s Rolls Royce and Bentley (undecided on what model/style/coachbuilder but potentially also a well sorted RR Silver Shadow 2.

I’ve seen a few that look very nice online but having researched the dealers I’ve been put off by customer feedback.

I’m after a car for fair weather and very occasional use, aiming for higher end of whatever model I opt for but willing to do some finishing touches as required; I’m hoping for something that is concours or close to it.

Looking for recommendations on trusted dealers who have honest stock that aligns with what I’ve mentioned above.

Also any auction houses that deal with cars of this vintage?

I am prepared to cut dealers some slack when it comes to classic cars, because everyone's perception varies as to what is acceptable. They are, after all, selling cars that are decades old.

I used to buy classic Porsches and one person's idea of immaculate was different from another's.

I also saw the State Bentley up close a few years ago and it was not, to my eye, immaculate. It needed a bit of paint!

I don't think i would pay any attention to dealer reviews on cars that old.
At that sort of age all I would personally expect from the dealer is that the car was safe and roadworthy beyond that any remedial work is largely betterment and personal choice.
Get it inspected and know what you are buying then as normal keep a repair / upgrade fund to do anyworks you want looking at.
Derek Mowatt up in Edinburgh gets some nice cars in but whether he has something that floats your boat.....worth checking though as his cars are generally at the better end of the spectrum
