I've bought an iPod lead to plug into the back of the Boost Radio in my wife's 2004 MCS.

It looks like I have to remove the two large'ish Torx bolts on the side of the centre console, but the one on the drivers side is obscured by a bit of plastic trim that goes round the bottom of the steering column. Do I have to remove that first to gain access to the Torx bolt and if so, how do I do that?

Once the two Torx bolts are removed should the unit just slide out thus giving me access to plug the iPod lead in or is there an easier way to do it in the first place?

Many thanks.

Looks like a dodgy link again. If its the cable I fitted to my old Cooper S which fits into the CD changer socket - I found it pretty useless from memory (it was 4 years ago!). I found it very difficult getting to the tracks I actually wanted and eventually went for a FM transmitter and used the ipod directly. Still using that in my Clubman S, although they aare much cheaper nowadays!

Easy...

  • drop the steering trim panel down, just pulls down out the pop clips.
  • remove all 4 torx off the down pillars
  • lift out the mirror control switch
  • under the switch is 2 torx, remove them and the ones in the front cup holder
  • lift up the gaiter so it out the way
  • grab the gear shift surround, lift and pull back, this will take the pillars with it, then you can get to the torx holding the hu

Let me know how you get on Si.

As my MCS is sticking with me a little longer I need to update the Cassette/6 Disc Combo to play music from my phone instead and get some BlueTooth in there. For starters I need a decent AUX In conversion.
