R56 audio upgrade required!

Running a tasty spec 2010 whi h I actually really like. However, the sound system is simply pants, truly horrific and spoiling the car for me.

So what to do? The aftermarket audio market is huge so unsure where to begin. Any hints and tips on how to turn a dreadful sound system into a half decent one. Looking for HK quality really and have assumed I cannot retrofit.
