Convertible cable broken

The "sunroof" section of my wifes 2004 cooper convertible has got the dreaded cable problem i.e only one side unlatches and starts to open.
There's a 4 part youtube video showing a guy in the states carrying out a detailed repair and bonding on the end nipple back onto the cable, has anyone had a go at this - is there an easier way as he seems to pretty much dismantles the whole front section of the roof?
Dealers way to expensive so not going down that route
Need to fix it soon as weather is getting better !
