Can anyone tell me which standard radio unit I need to be able to connect my iPhone up to? I have a 52 plate cooper and will put up a pic of the radio currently in it tomorrow but can't see anywhere on the current one to plug a USB lead into.
Thanks in advance

I don't think a 52 plate will have a USB connection. Mine is an 03 Cooper that had the tape deck stereo and that didn't have anything. Some have an aux-in hidden in the glove box.
I just replaced my head unit with a Pioneer USB/Bluetooth/SD card stereo which also sounds 100% better than the old stereo.

I've been looking at replacements but want to keep the steering wheel controls is that possible?

A lot of aftermarket stereos (probably most these days) can plug into the steering wheel controls. You'll just have to do some research to see which ones do.

Found this: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Also, after a bit of googling there is a cable that can connect your new head unit to the steering wheel controls but I don't know much more than that. My experience with head units is that they are far more complicated to use than simple fitting an aux cable and operating the ipod directly although you won't get it to charge the ipod.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I have finally gone an ordered a stereo for my cooper, this one
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004I1JMU6?ie=U...
Question I have now before it arrives is do I need a wiring adapter for it or do the Sonys simple have direct fit plugs. I have already got the face plate ready to go just incase anyone wondered.
Thanks again in advance for any info on this matter.

I believe the Sony will have ISO plugs (as pretty much all of them do now) so you will need a harness adapter. You will probably also need an aerial socket adapter as the Mini uses some weird thing.
Both are available at Halfords.
