Hi,

picked up a Cooper S today and the engine's a bit grimy, general muck, nothing major.

i wasn't sure with the supercharger whether the usual mild power washing was a good idea, any ideas on cleaning the engine?

thanks v much.

You're joking right?

Never ever ever power wash an engine!

See 'mild' power wash.

i'd say 75% of engines have been power washed by dealers....i was thinking a degreaser, hosed off and then a treatment with some new protection.

so no, i wasn't joking. i am aware of the pitfalls..but thanks for your input nevertheless.

I'd be very very wary of doing this.

Why not just crack out the bucket and sponge?

Just use an all purpose cleaner like from poorboys or if really grimey use a diluted truck wash. Cover the coil and any visible electric bits and gently wash the engine off. Agitate the cleaner before hosing off. It will have as much effect on the engine as driving through a rainstorm. Make sure the engine is 'warm' so it allows it to dry out quicker. Go for it, did mine and all is fine.

Make sure you don't put any APC on the paintwork inside the bonnet or on the sides of the engine, it will peel off, known fault on R53. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.p...
No need to buy boutique APC, Flash with Febreeze is great dilluted 1:6.
