Hello

my friend's 2008 Mini JCW needs to get the timing chain + tensioner + guide rail done. He got a quote for £750 from a specialist. Does that sound a fair price to you?

thank you

It dose sound a bit high but I have never hade the work done. I would call BMW and get them to give you a price (They shound know as they must have don a lot by now).

I think BMW charge over £1,000 for the entire job.

EDIT I just got my done last week and they agreed to give me a copy of the invoice which I just got in the post (they send it to BMW/Mini warranty as it's was done under the Mini Insured Warranty) and it's £590 inc VAT but it must be discounted I assume. This is for hub, chain, tensioner, rail, sprocket, stud, guide rail. £240 parts, £350 labour. Worth asking your local official dealer as they do so many they may have better knowledge. There were loads of other small parts, o-rings, bolts etc etc

I would also try to get a goodwill repair which might only attract a contribution.
