Hi all,

Thought I'd better start the search for insurance for my MINI before she arrives (4 weeks to go and getting excited now bounce )

I did a quick compare the market (why don't they have John cooper works hatch? Only Coupe etc?) tried Adrian flux as they were listed above but no sensible quotes to tempt me at the moment.

I'm 28 with 9 years no claims, 3 points on my licence from 2007 and a 28 day ban (sp30) in 2009. Used to paying out £1100-1200 for recent 400-500hp cars but seem to be getting similar quotes for my new 1.6 ltr micro hatch?!? scratchchin

So who's insuring with who and roughly how much are people paying? I know one chap same age with similar endorsements who pays circa £400 on a Cooper S. Just trying to get a feel for what I should be paying on my car.

Regards,

Ben

I'm not sure on costs but the S is group 30E and the JCW is 36E, might be worth finding out the groups for youjr previous cars, they will probably be similar to the JCW if costs are about the same.

They've all been group 20 but that was on the old system. Don't know how the new system works yet.

You have to be very careful when sorting out the insurance that they have understood exactly what the car is - when I first had my JCW the certificate came back saying a "Cooper Works" and then a "Cooper S Works," despite my being very clear what the car was. Most websites do have the option of putting in "JOHN" as a spec which then allows you to select the correct model IIRC.

My renewal (had I not got rid of the car) was £560 IIRC with Direct Line.

When I had my Mini, I was insured with Mini insurance. They were the cheapest and understood the product. I still insure with them my BMW.

Thanks chaps. That's two more to try. Direct line and MINI. I'd never thought to try MINI themselves.

Update. Tried those suggestions. Direct line were pretty good, MINI not so good (but at least they knew what the car was)

Try churchill as they're doing 12 months for the price of 10. I've just insured mine for £480. 26 with 6yrs NCB & no points.

I am just going through the same process as Swiftcover have come back with a renewal quote of nearly double last years premium (how does that one work?)

So far I think Adrian Flux are winning, but still have to get a few more quotes yet.

Last year I managed to get it a bit under £500 (26 4yrs NCB and an RG9 post code), this year it doesn't look so good.

ETA: congrats on the new wheels

Greenlight / Adrian flux, both have Mini plans. My heavily modded R53 cooper S (turbo converted 300+bhp) on a limited mileage plan (weekend car) £500. If for a short while had a second stock r53 and looked with the sin stream insurers and they wanted more than I was paying on my car

I'm down to £550 now (axa) will check those last few suggestions but getting down to what I'd like to pay now. £500 feels fair.

Try Elephant... you can fill in and get quote online. You might be surprised! If it's a JCW (211bhp) with no extra mods you'll get a good price. I did and have done for last 3 years.
