How do you take a supercharged Cooper S to that level of power, what does it take?

Why would you want to?

Just a bold claim I've heard. It looks to have a standard exhaust FWIW. hehe

with a lot of work...

cams, injectors, ported polished head with larger valves, exhaust system and manifold, then tbh you can try with a pulley on the blower but the best option is to bolt on a turbo or replace the stock blower with something a little bigger. By this time you will also have had to change the clutch and will want a solid light flywheel no to mention a much bigger intercooler

easiest way...

go to a dyno that is not calibrated and well out or just guess the power based on your mates car...

It can be done but not generally cheap or easy, I have thrown a lot at my engine and also new pistons, rods and had everything balanced, not sure what it will make but it will be enough. The blower on my engine is nearly as big as the block

And I thought the MP62 on my MX5 was big! Is that an M90 from a Merc?

Also, to reiterate what you said earlier... I've had my 5 dyno'd a few times and the result has varied significantly. At AFR it made 253bhp (which I really don't believe) whereas at Surrey Rolling Road it made 225bhp in exactly the same state. SRR I do rate as a good dyno run by people who know what they are doing and their figures seem more realistic.

With the standard Mini M45 you won't get anywhere near 300bhp, it just can't supply enough air to get to that level. An M62 will do it and a touch more. An M90? On a 1.8 MX5 I reckon you could get 400+. On a 1.6 Mini? I'll be watching your blog with interest.

people have managed 260 and some claim 300 from an m45.

My blower is an AX1200 twin screw from an AMG C32

some guys in the states with big turbos have had 600bhp through the 1.6 lump but really 300 - 400 can be done on a daily driver but with a stock blower then 220 - 260 is about realistic with mods

300 has been done on the M45 but not easily, have a look on www.minitorque.com, there are a couple of build threads on there with bigger power builds. 240 is enough on the R53 and it's what I'm aiming for now I've decided to keep mine as a track slag. As usual through, power is nothing without control so you need some decent coilovers, R56 brakes and decent discs (Nitrac with Carbotech pads work best), F&R braces and a decent underbody brace before even considering the power hikes. Do those things first and then decide if you REALLY want to spend the money on making it quick in a straight line as well as going round corners properly.

Realistically you will need a Rotrex or Turbo conversion for this. There are however a couple of M45 cars that have achieved near on 300 bhp but with built motors (KAVs Motor Sport 260whp) and a chap in Italy with a Revolution Mini Works car (now running rotrex) made near on 300 bhp. Most supercharged (m45) minis seem to call time between 275 and 285 bhp, getting to this point is actually quite simple: big valve head, Manifold, cam, injectors, tune, reduced pulley, GP / GRS intercooler, plugs & a slightly better cat back. all the parts needed for that stage are bolt ons. After that your chasing fewer and fewer horses for more money on the M45, the quickest mini round how fast on bedfords west circuit only has 234 whp, with minis you need to spend on suspension and brakes 1st (dont bother with a BBK) the R56 calipers with better pads are all a road / track day mini will need).

In reality you won't make 300bhp on an m45 without going to ridiculous lengths. So your much better going turbo or for a different supercharger. My car started off as a works, it made 272bhp on its m45 and now it's powered by a garret 2871r turbo and makes 300 odd bhp at 15psi. (less boost than most pullied m45 cars)
