Evening all,

Picked up my Mini CS a few days ago. It's a 2005 Cooper S Works with works brakes, chili pack, chrome line pack, interior lighting lack, two tone leather heated recaros and loads of other bits and bobs, I'm really chuffed with it smile

I do have a couple of questions though;

A) It could do with a new set of boots and I've been scouring this forum and others trying to see what the consensus is - it would appear that the Pirelli P Zero Nero is highly regarded? Is this the best bet? I've been offered 4 fitted for £478 by my local fitter, or £513 fitted for the Toyo Proxe T1R. Any recommendations?

B) I've got a knocking noise coming from my front end. It only seems to occur when I lift off the throttle and then accelerate again, it just knocks once each time. It sounds to me like a ball joint or bush or similar but I've seen a few threads indicating that engine mounts tend to go also? I did see today that the bottom of the engine had quite a bit of oil over it so that's now been cleaned off and I'll keep an eye on it. Any suggestions as to what this likely to be? The cars done 47k miles.

Thanks in advance guys smile I'll try and post some pics once I work out how smile

Not many replies as people are waiting for piccies LOL..........
Tyres, always a tricky one. We seem happy with the falken 912's on ours, on the front. Going to get a pair on the rear now.
Knocking noise could be the rubber mount on the drivers side knackered. Check for any oil around the mount to see if it has failed.
Oh and welcome !!!

Looks really smart. You need to get rid of the chrome bit under the grill bumper at some point and fit the aero tache. As below.
The mount is the the left of the engine and looks like a round rubber ball, next to the rocker cover.

Excellent looking Works! Love that interior.

If it's a knocking from acceleration & deceleration then it's probably the top engine mount. It will knock at low speeds too, so if you rock the car back and forth between 1st & reverse you'll still be able to hear it. (If it's an engine mount, obviously).
To get an idea of cost, I had mine changed at Sytner MINI around 3 months ago at a price of £124.21 supplied and fitted.

Nice one, thanks. It's covered by a warranty which I would HOPE covers engine mounts! I'll give them a call smile

Thanks again

Cheers mate. All the evidence points towards you being right, and it being an engine mount. I've looked at the one you mention and there's no oil on the rail beneath, but if I take hold of the mount and try to move it back and forth and I can hear a very slight tap noise, which could feasible be amplified through the car?

Thanks for your help smile

If it makes a tapping noise with just you moving it about then I can imagine the noise would be much greater and certainly amplified with it being pulled about on acceleration.
Upon inspection of mine there was nothing too obvious to show it was that particular engine mount, it wasn't even leaking that badly, but the audible symptoms just pointed towards either top or bottom engine mount.

There's a company called Vibratechnics which do alternate engine mounts and are supposed to be much more durable than the OEM parts, they are, however, a bit more expensive at about £180 for a top mount.

Bloody hell, some people do pay over the odds for tyres.
Toyo Proxes T1R (good tyre) - you can get a set despatched same day for £323.76 inc deliv.
from Camskill.
Then simply take the tyres to nearest fitter, most charge between a tenner to twenty quid a wheel fitting and balancing, so about 400 quid tops.

Save yourself over a 100 quid at a stroke!

Cheers, I discovered the same! Black circles do them for £96 each, fitted, and list the very same garage as a fitter so I'll be calling them later to discuss their prices!! smile
