Intermittent Soft Top Operation

The Soft top on My wife's Cooper S Sidewalk has developed intermittent operation.
Basically it slides back though the first stage and then stops....refusing to retract all the way.
Before we call upon the garage are there any obvious things we're overlooking.
I've consulted the manual which I have to say is bordering upon next to useless.

sounds like a simple fix
check the safety latches in the boot and the the parcel shelf are correctly locked - there are a couple of small micro switches which prevent the roof operation unless these are made.
Wish my problem was so easy to sort.
The cable broke on one side (common problem ) and the roof frame has twisted
looks like its going to be a major expense to fix.
I have managed to get the roof latched back in closed position but doubt it will be opened for a very long time
My advice is to sell yours now while it works and get something else !!
