2006 Mini One gearbox question

Hi

I have a 2006 Mini One which I am in the process of buying from the OH's boss (it was a company car). I took it up for an MOT today and have just noticed a faulty bearing-type noise coming from the engine bay which goes away when I depress the clutch. A quick google suggest a gearbox fault rather than clutch I wondered if anybody had experience of this?

to get the gearbox off you after take most of the car to bits its not a easy job not like the old mini thats for sure maybe a bearing but how loud is it ?

Its not that loud and TBH I didn't really notice it until I had the bonnet open but I am just concerned that it might get worse in the future. I still haven't decided to buy the car as I was waiting to see how much the MOT was going to cost so I may pass on it.
