mini one steering wheel knocking sound

hey

my sisters mini has got a slight knocking sound when driving along in it, its not very loud but it is there and you can also feel it lightly through the wheel when you turn it left or right. ive only driven the car up to 30mph but something doesnt feel right.

any help would be appreciated

I had a similar knock on my 2008 cooper s. Mini diagnosed it was the gearbox mount so had it done under warranty.

Take the plastics off round the base of the steering wheel, and the lower dash piece (its hinged, you just pull it down)

You will see a joint in the steering linkage, about halfway down. Give this the good news with some grease, should sort it, common fault

The bearing that the wheel hight ajustoment works on is not good. When you ajust the wheel hight you put a side load on the bearing. After as above putting grease on it then get the wheel at the hight you want then pull the housting of the bearing in to a postion were the bearing shaft and housing all look good (Move max up / down then set in the mid position). I did this on my wife's car 2 year ago still ok. You can replace the bering or the hole rack the new rack is updated so should never have the problem agine.
