I've been posting in the General section but thought it might be worth posting in here too smile

Just looking at getting 2 new front tyres for my girlfriend 56reg MINI [205/45/R17] and was wondering what you guys are running/can recommend? I think we're going to stick with RFTs!

Cheers in advance.

My Mrs S Conv had Pirelli Euphoria RFT. They were no better than Ok on dry roads, bad in the wet and the ride was terrible. Replaced with Hankook V12 EVO - all 4 for less than the price of 2 RFT tyres. Grip, especially in the wet and the ride quality are massively improved.
Stick with RFT if you like but they are expensive and nowhere near as good as non-RFT.

If it was my car, I'd be swapping all 4 for non-RFTs in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't want my OH to be left stranded somewhere with a flat and no spare! I haven't really looked into the foam things you can get to replace a spare though.

I had the Pirelli's but was not impressed, plus they were noisy as hell. Swapped to Conti's, much better than the Pirelli's but still not fantastic.

I will probably ditch the RF's when I burn through the current set and look for a space saver to stick in the boot (only ever have a jacket and brief case in the boot so don't use it much)....

I can understand why the OEMs are Conti RF. So far they've been brilliant in the wet and dry.

You could move to normal tyres and then retro fit the space saver (see Mini Torque article).

P.S. This definitely does not fit the S with twin centre pipes, and it would be prudent to check your VIN at the dealer's spares department before buying just in case there are other bits in the way on other models.

I found the Contis were better than the Dunlops on my JCW if you are going to keep the RFTs
