Hello. Just putting this out to the forum for some advise. I have a 2007 Cooper S, and
when the weather is cold and engine cold, the car starts 'lumpy' and 'chuggs' in my opinion doesnt
really run smooth till the car is warm. Then it flys as you would expect and I use super plus fuel.
I have been to my local dealer, who replaced the tandam fuel pump and reported no other issues.
however, to be honest the 'problem' has not gone away, the car is serviced by Mini correctly.
I get no warning lights on, fuel consumption is not heavy and neither is the oil consumption, the car
has just had a MOT and pessed the emmission test.
But, one thing nags at me that there could be a issue, I clean the car every weekend, and I clean
the chome exhaust tips as well as about two inches inside the exhaust pipe (OCD) but after 150 miles
or so, the exhaust is covered in black soot. Back in the old days (giving my age away) you would say
its running too rich and tweak the mixture down a tad.

Any ideas, or am i just looking at something thats ok?

I would go back to BMW Mini. If the car was not runing the correct mix it would normaly do bad MPG. It is easy to check and most garages have the equipment. I would take it back and if they say it is ok get them to lend you a car and see if it is the same.

...Tell me more?

I would take it back to BMW, but, I have no engine warning lights on, emmissions test past on MOT, fuel consumption is a reasonable 30mpg and its not using any oil.

So, there is not a whole lot i can complain about. But
I would like to know about these coking issues and is there a resolve?

Thanks guys as ever.

search on some mini forums
they basicly all suffer with it to some extent sooner or later, oil vapours leave carbon deposits on parts of the engine that never get touch by fuel because it's direct injection, so they just build up, there is no real solution, some people will fit an oil catch can to filter the vapours from the pcv system, but it's not an effective solution, sooner or later you need it decoked
