Looking for post 2006 model (R56), is claimed figure of 45mpg correct or wishful figure ?

Looking for one to replace my SAAB 9-3 diesel so the fuel outlay would be the same, I only do 20 miles a day commute.

What stuff to look out for when searching for one.

I'd say that's optimistic by 10-20mpg depending on the type of driving you do. I doubt anyone gets 45mpg from an R56 unless they are driving exclusively on motorways at a constant 60mph.

I'm afraid that is a bit optimistic. I get approx 32 mpg out of my R56 Cooper S(auto).

Not as pessimistic as other posters in this thread. I have a R56 Cooper S Clubman. On a 80mph run on the motorway I can get about 41mpg. Around town I get about 38 mpg. When I was commuting from Tamworth to Droitwich every day along the M42 at 60mph I once hit 50mpg (very boring and not what the car is really about.

These mpg are all from the OBC - so probably a little optimistic, but no more so thn any other car!!

Ours does an honest 40mpg, sometimes up to 42mpg when the weather is nicer.

It does a 40 mile commute on a daily basis with mainly A roads and about 10 mins traffic crawl.

45mpg is acheivable with restraint, I'd say

Are these figures less than 30 all with an R56?

That is what I was wondering, those figure sounded more like R53.

Fair point. My Mrs S is a 2008 but being a convertible it's supercharged.

I average 32mpg with a mix of driving. If you do achieve 40 long term mpg, you probably bought the wrong car as you're not using much of the performance nor are you helping coking issues.

Mine is a cooper s but a coupe not hatchback. This thread shows me I need to drive it harder! I get 42mpg without even trying and have been up to 47mpg when pretty much just motorway driving at 70 ish, I cant even begin to think about how hard you must have to drive to get 30mpg from it.

Agreed, hence my question.. The figures
quote above sound more like they are for R53 as opposed to the R56

I had the 184 PS engine (around 48mpg combined iirc) and used to regularly get 40mpg, 42 if I gave a little thought and never saw less than 37.5 on the OBC. I'm sue someone will chime in saying that the OBC is inaccurate and the true mpg was actually closer to 15 wink

With TLC pack it was a genuinely cheap car to run especially given the performance.
