Hi

My partner is looking at a 2001 Mini Cooper Auto and was wondering if anybody has any advice on if these should be avoided? Car has circa 90k on it.

Forum searches reveal tales of issues and rebuilds but I am unsure if this is a few or a common issue.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

CVT Auto boxes can be major hassle on first gen cars (One and Cooper only, think the Cooper S was un-affected).

Not experienced them myself, but have heard of others being handed some very large bills (think £2k+ minimum), especially considering the value of the car (there have been many lawsuits in the USA where the transmission was more popular). Many in the States were forking out $10k for a new box and labour to fit only a few years ago.

It was unaffected... the 'S' never had the CVT box - it had a six speed auto.
