I have a mini cooper s clubman - reg 57 - which we bought 8 months ago. Will it have come with air con as standard as it doesn't seem to work - just lots of hot air. If it hasn't come it, is it easy to get installed.

Thanks for your help.

Mine has a button to press to switch it on (looks like a snowflake)

So I definitely have that but just blows hot air. Do you press Auto at the same time or just the snowflake. I've tried all sorts of combinations and read the manual, so I guess it must be broken. But just hoping that maybe I've missed something obvious.
Thanks for your help....

Mines manual aircon. Just set them temperature and press the snowflake, obviously the colder you set it, the colder the air will be when it comes out.
If it's blowing hot, then it may need the aircon recharging, which any garage can do.

My 03 Cooper has the Climate but the AC is still a separate button (which I leave off most of the time). It does switch itself off if I press the "Auto" button though.

If you press the snowflake button and nothing happens then it is probably out of gas. Does the engine pitch change when you press the button or do you hear any extra fans cutting in under the bonnet?

When you say Auto, it sounds like you have the Climate Control function;

Hitting Auto will automatically start the Air Conditioning (the green light should be displayed above the Air Con button as well as next to the Auto button). Temperature dependent, but if the temperature is lower than about 19C, it should be fairly cool.

Easiest way to see if it is working is hit MAX (bottom left) and see how cold it is. If it is still warm after a couple of minutes, chances are the AC may need a re-gas, or maybe there is something wrong with the temperature controller.

My Climate Control in my Cooper S wasn't the most efficient it has to be said, but all of the other 2nd Gens I have driven have been the same.

The wife's R56 cooper auto cliamate is very effective, as long as she does not switch it off by catching the snow flake button, its happened a couple of times.

It may sound odd but do leave it a little time. When starting the air con will see the inside of the car as cold and my just blow hot air for a short time. Then work the it's self out and start blowing cold. May not be your problem but do give it a some time befor you give up on it. Next stage would be a re gas.
