Insuring a JCW
Discussion
I've just switched my insurance over to my new JCW - 2004 facelift. I'm currently half way through a policy so am just changing the car. The reg just comes up as Cooper S. I explained that a JCW was faster and that whilst modified, it was done by Mini and not aftermarket. I was pretty clear on the phone that it's not a standard Cooper S, but I suspect they've insured it as such. Do I need to be more forceful or is this standard?

Is it a factory John cooper works, or is it a cooper s, which had the performance pack for the JCW added by the dealer?
I'm not actually sure now. I had assumed that being a late 2004, people had given up the aftermarket kits because they were so readily available from dealers or secondhand, and so it was a factory kit. If it was a factory kit would it have come up as a JCW when the insurers ran it through their systems?LV didn't class that as a modification as it was a factory (if dealer fitted) item.
I explained very carefully that mine was done between the pdi and the car being picked up and the guy went away and checked so all was open.
I also got it past Warrantywise's 'no modifications' rule after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing.
