Would the warranty definitely cover a transmission failure?

There are a lot of warrantys out there all with diffrent cover levels. Have a look around but a good warranty on a 10year old car is not going to be cheep. I would look in to the cost of getting a scond hand gearbox fitted and then have a look at the cost of a warranty.
