Hi I have just sold my 987 Boxster and picked up my new JCW.... It's bloody brilliant.
It's exactly what I wanted with lots of carbon bits in red and black with the awesome Recaro seats ( sorry as you can probably tell I'm very pleased with it ) . It is booked in for a service, general check over and replace the tensioner for the newer hopefully stronger version for peace of mind. Anyway to the point, after that and I have some peace of mind I would like to add some more POWER ! It goes well, just fancy a bit more. I was thinking front mount intercooler, remap, and I have read about replacement front pipes eg evolve which I think remove primary cats ? Is that right ? Would that or anything else cause any problems with warning lights or emissions come MOT time ?
Last thing I'm in the south east so is there anywhere they would recommend but I will travel if there is a where that is really recommended
Cheers in advance any response is welcome.

Evolve!

I had my car decatted by them and it's only a slight increase in power but the noise is great. If you want a hefty increase in power then they can replace your intercooler and remap your car giving you around 50bhp increase

Funnily enough I was planning on phoning evolve this week to discuss options. A front mount intercooler, sports cat and remap are probably on the cards ! Only heard good things about evolve so far

Hi,

I have Forge Motorsport bigger intercooler and Miltec sport downpipe on my Clubman JCW plus a remap. All done by Performance Torque in Solihull. Car is now making around 270bhp and bigger torque. I had the work done 18 months ago and have never looked back, completely reliable and no warranty/servicing issues when going back to mini dealer for a service (although if something went bang they might I guess). The extra power absolutely transforms the car in my opinion, stock JCW brakes are more than up to the job and so far I have resisted coilovers as the car is very well damped for the road on the sport suspension.

I did a lot of research at the time, Evolve have a good reputation as well but I called and spoke to Will at Performance Torque who talked me through what I was looking for and fitted the intercooler, pipe and did the remap in a day. He has worked on the mini challenge cars as I understand and maps a lot of Britcar engines as well so knows his stuff.

Good luck, only other thing I would say is go for it, you won't be dissapointed, I came out of an E39M5 into the mini and day to day it is much more fun to drive.

Hi mate, thank you for the info. I've just got the car back from a full service and the upgraded tensioner fitted. The car got a clean bill of health so POWER ! Will definitely be next smile . Although I need to get 2 new tyres fitted on Monday.
I had a new porsche boxster before my r56 & a very heavily modified r53 mcs before that. I loved the porsche but I do actually get to enjoy the r56 more often & I could get rid of my porsche for good money before the weather got really stty. Thank you for your kind offer mate I might have to take u up on that when I get some time but having said that I'm not sure I need convincing haha.

Is your R56 a Factory John Cooper Works or the dealer fitted kit? (do your exhaust tail pipes have the JCW Logo on them or blank)

If it's the latter dealer fit kit then I think the available remaps is very much limited...

Hi, My pleasure - and as I said an open offer. I came from an E39 M5 to minis and agree that on a day to day basis they are more fun to drive if a little less comfortable for big journeys :-)

Wasn't the factory fit Works only available from August 2008?

Have you checked your V5 to ensure you actually have a Factory John Cooper Works, the FJCW wasn't released until mid 08 and has the large brembo red brakes, 211bhp and a different exhaust and other changes over the Cooper S.

I have a feeling your car is a R56 Cooper S with the dealer fitted JCW engine kit which is entirely different from a FJCW..
