2012 MCS - Engine Noise

Hi chaps,

Just bought a 2012 MCS (photo put up last weekend in Readers Cars...thread "Cars,Bikes and Helicopters") and I am absolutely living it sofar. Just seems to do everything really

The only fault I've noticed is the engine has suddenly increased in noise at low rpms/tickover and whether hot or cold. The noise seems to be coming from the rhs of the engine (as you look at it) and doesn't sound as bad as the 'death rattle' just a very tappetty type rattle that wasn't there before.

I've emailed the garage a vid of the noise but thought I'd try here aswell. I've assumed it's not the death rattle as I believe the new tensioner was fitted for this model year. Anyway, any thoughts appreciated.

Have you checked the oil level?

Mine likes a drink of oil and can get a 'little' tappety when on the low side.

Thanks, yes I went retro and dipped the oil, plenty on there but looked very black rather than golden. It's not done sufficient miles for its first service yet which is due next Jun. Hmmm may do it myself and see if it helps.

I'm doing an intermediate oil change on mine at the weekend. I don't like the long life service regime.

Thanks, I must admit I'm not entirely comfortable with a service interval of 2 years and the oil did not look healthy.

The code didn't work for me unfortunately, but I am now away with work for a couple of weeks so I'll look forward to hearing what excuses the service department comes up with in the meantime
