Does anyone know if this can be got rid of. I find it so nanny state, typical Health and Safety sh@t. I have never ever been car jacked or fallen out of a door that has opened by itself. Please no "It's for the children" as mine are old enough and my car is a GP anyway.

So is there any sequence of pressing and holding whilst ..... whatever to disable this or is it only a dealer job???

Any assistance appreciated.

Our pool Cooper D has it buried in the menu somewhere, along with the beep when exceeding x mph.
Have to admit being used in London the beep is quite handy as trying to read the ridiculous speedo is near impossible.
Has the media pack and sat nav so big screen.

I don't see a problem with it myself. It's not like you are going to be getting out of the car while driving. And it will open anyway if you do the door handle twice. And there is a switch on the centre console...

It can be annoying, as it also locks the boot. I often jump out of the drivers door and get to the boot only to find its still locked.
Yes, this ^^ and who wants to press a button to get out of a car or let someone in. Imagine having to unlock your door every time you go from the sitting room to the hall. Alright if it is you only car but when it is not it means remembering the 'odd one out' every time. It is completely and utterly unnecessary and a waste of my time and everyone elses.

It will go on the list along with automatic windscreen wipers, and self closing doors/ boot lids and bleeping/bonging noises when doors are left open.

My Cooper S has Media so it's done through the iDrive-style system, so I can't remember exactly what the menus say on normal cars, but I can do it without thinking. I'll have a play with the stalk in my Countryman demo tomorrow and show you how it's done.

As for the guy with the Cooper D, if it's pre-Sept '10 click the stalk until mph appears on the long screen in the tacho, after a short delay a digital speedo will appear in the square display above. If it's an LCI car, it should have it there permanently anyway.
