Hey guys ...I had a slight problem last week with my 2006 Cooper. S ...as I pulled up to work the cars battery light came on ...then wouldn't. Start again...didn't have any power to even crank it over ...4 hours later when I tried it again it started right up ....but had a strong burning rubber smell ....at a guess must be from the rubber belt to the charger / alternator. ? I have had no problems since then and a whole week has past! Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else ? Or does anybody got an idea .....Thanks bobmoan

Open the bonnet and look to the left of the bay. You will see the axilary belt. This runs the alterntor and ac etc. It may be the belt or the belt and rentioner that need replacing. Not a big job and is some times missed as part of the service. It could be somthing else but I would start hear.
