Wife's Cooper is due for new tyres soon what options are people running?
Currently 195/55/16 run flats
Keep the same or go normal tyres with can of moose in the boot
keep 195/55/16 or increase to 205/50/16

Car is just used to and from work nothing much else

I changed to 195/55/16 toyo proxy T1Rs.... Loads more grip, feels like you added a diff coming out of corners, way smoother and comfier ride and ultimately faster across country. But, more body roll, noticeable, turn in is a bit groggier and they feel weird until your used to them.

I'd recommend Goodyear eagle f1 asy 2s if you can get them in that size. Or try the new uni royal rain sport 3.

My wife needed new tyres and I stuck to runflats for her Goodyear or Dunlop I do not really remember which. Personally I do not see the problem with runflats particularly as my cars are track orientated.

I would also add that my wife is highly unlikely to change a wheel or sort out any goo if she gets a puncture. To put this further into context she had the low pressure warning light come on whilst I was away. She said that she thought the tyres were fine and apparently reset the system. It did not come on again. I then come home and check her pressures to find one is running 20 psi or such like. She had been running for two weeks or so with a puncture. It turns out she has switched the tyre pressure system off !!!

"Ooh I thought the steering was a bit stiff"

Hence runflats.

I'd say that's a reasonable argument against runflats. With a puncture they are only supposed to be used just to get to a tyre dealer to fix or repair, just like a space-saver spare or using the spray-foam stuff. You shouldn't continue driving on it.

How long can you drive on a punctured run flat tyre?
Once a run flat tyre suffers a puncture, you can’t keep driving on it forever – usually you will be able to drive at c. 30 mph for another 50 miles – plenty of time to get to your nearest garage. The exact range depends on variables like your driving speed, load of your vehicle and driving conditions.
