We have a 2003 cooper s that has developed a central looking fault. The key fob looks the doors but won't unlock them...meaning having to use the key

Any ideas to the cause

No it stays locked until I use the key which pops the little black button up.
it started with the drivers door now both of them.
Thanks

When this happened to me it was a door lock/ actuator in the drivers door.
Was a long story, local mini dealer got it all wrong as they missed the fact both my keys didn't work either, and told me it was a body control module.....which are over a grand.
EBay sell the lock actuators for about 55 quid for a genuine part. local stealer wanted 104 pound.

Sound like the actuator has gone. When mine broke I could stand next to the car use the key fob and hear the car unlocking itself. The boot and passenger side could be opened, but the driver side had to be opened with the key. It would lock though which is odd.

The actuator is easy enough to fit. Just need patience.

It's not to bad. Dont take the glass out. Just have the window all the way up. Mark the rail mount at the bottom of the door and undo the fixing. Move that rail out of the way (Push to the door skin). When the new lock is in just move the rail back to the mark and do up. There is not a lot of room but is posible.
