Mini door lock problems

When i lock the car the locks go up and down 3 times and always stay in the up, unlocked position.
The alarm is armed and it will not start, so it won't get nicked, but it would be nice to lock the doors at night also.
If i use the key carefully the doors will lock, but not remotely from the fob. The buttons dance up and down three or four times then settle in the up position.
Anyone heard of this problem before?

Door locks faulty most likely, they do fail, but usually jam closed, so you're possibly fortunate if you get at least one swapped pretty soon

When they give up it is a nightmare to get the door open again. I have in the past had to strip the door and lock apart from within the car.

I felt like cutting the door off would have been easier
