Countryman SD DPF

Hi all, my wife has a 2016 Mini Countryman SD that we have for about 8 years. We have just been told that the DPF is fully blocked and cannot be cleansed.
The garage that it is at says they only fit original parts and have quoted £4k which isn't worth it.
I don't want to bypass the DPF but looking at options.
I have seen 2nd hand ones but no guarantees that they won't be knackered and there are non-BMW ones for around £500.
Has anybody any experience of this and any idea of the costs to replace.
