Anyone else had problems changing battery on F57 Cooper S?
Discussion
12 days since my 66 Cooper S was delivered (bought long distance) and I've had enough! I am going to reject it, but suspect it will be a hassle.
Battery was completely flat the day after it arrived. Organised Halfords to deliver and fit a new one - AGM096 (as shown on their website - and everyone elses), but when he took the old one out, the 096 was obviously too small. He said the size was a 115, but their system showed it as "not suitable for this vehicle". Spoke to a Mini dealership - they only recommended fitting a genuine BMW battery (which measured the same as the 115) but I had no means of getting the car there. After endless phone calls, the dealer from whom I bought it instructed the AA to come and fit a 115, which they did. The guy did say "odd, as our system says an 096".
Today I went to take the car out, but the "emissions" light has come on permanently, and the Start/stop is shown as inoperative. Took it for a short drive, and was fine - but the light remained on. I have a sneaky feeling this might be linked to the new battery.
There must be thousands of batteries changed every year on these cars - how come there is such confusion?

A quick search online for me shows both types pretty much equally, so I am guessing that a different spec could dictate which it is, but obviously that is a guess.
On the subject of the start/stop & EML issues, the vast majority of cars need to be told that they have a new battery fitted and they then re-learn its capacity/state of charge etc otherwise they still think they have a stuffed battery.
On top of that "completely flat" can also cause similar issues, so you need to get the car/battery coded correctly.
As you quite correctly point out batteries are changed every day by the dozen & you would think by now somewhere as big as Halfrauds would be teaching their chimps how to do this.
