My wife has a Mini One 1.5. It's a 23 plate petrol and she's had it from new.

Since new she has covered some 4400 miles. Mostly short 8 - 10 mile journeys with the odd 100 mile motorway trip.

The car is now nagging us to service the oil. I've checked the level (no bloody dipstick!) via the car computer and it says level is OK

Is it worth changing the oil as on another screen, it says 13000 miles to next service?

Many thanks

Every 2 years or 18k, what ever is first. It's worth doing, especially with lots of short journeys and it not getting up to temp.

ENGINE OIL SERVICE.
We recommended booking an Engine Oil Service every two years (or 18,000 miles – whichever comes first). Changing your MINI’s oil improves mileage and helps maintain a healthy engine. We’ll drain* any old oil before refilling with MINI approved oil (did you know Original MINI Engine Oil has patented active cleansing technology that exceeds industry standards?). And we’ll also remove and replace your oil filter with a brand new MINI approved one.

We have a couple of vans (Fiat Ducatos) which we use for small deliveries to customers. One does mostly long journeys and a lot of motorway work, the other does mostly short journeys with frequent starts and stops. The one which does mostly motorway work requires less frequent oil changes than the other. I was told by the garage that they have some kind of automatic oil quality sensor which flags up the need for oil changes.

Irrespective of the mileage, if I'm reading it right, the oil in the car is 2 years old. I tend to change oil every year in all our cars. It may also be worth considering the effect it may have on any future warranty claim should you ignore these warnings and they are registered in the car's computer.

Father in law has a two year old Fiat Picanto with 400 miles, (Yes 400).

The oil has been changed twice during the service schedule.

Is that anything like the Kia Picanto?

I've done 3200 miles in the last 2 years, oil and brake fluid still changed on schedule.

The principle is the same with any new car,

If you want to keep the manufacturer's warranty up, if the service light comes up, get it done.

For me, mechanical sympathy is key. I think 2 year service intervals are too long but sufficient enough for a new car up to the warranty period.

I do about 2000 miles a year in both my cars and they get serviced annually. One is my weekend car while the other does a lot of short journeys.

I think you missed the joke here, it's a Kia Picanto, not a Fiat Picanto.
