2013 R57 Mini Cooper S Hesitation & Misfire
Discussion
I have a 2013 R57 Mini Cooper S with the N18 engine. Has 55K on it. Always been regularly serviced with oil changes done every 7K ish or less.
I have 2 symptoms:
1. When pulling away immediately after a cold start, it hesitates slightly.
2. Sometimes at a hot idle in traffic, the revs drop slightly and it appears to misfire a little.
No engine codes logged on Bimmerlink.
Looking for likely causes, carbon build up on the valves, High pressure fuel pump, or an air leak seem possible causes.
So:
1. Do these engines generally need a decoke at 55K? Google says 50 to 70K is the window when they tend to need it
2. Is this a likely cause of the issue?
3. Are there any other likely causes
Thank you.

AFAIK they DO need a decoke/walnut blast & 70k is normal, although the effects can be discerned before then.
You can obviously check yourself for metered air leaks yourself to rule that out first.
If there are no visible issues it could be worth booking it in for a walnut blast & get them to do a compression check at the same time along with a new set of plugs if they haven't been changed for a while.
