R56 spare wheel retrofit

Just wondering if anyone has done this? Both my R56s have the inflation kit but I’d much rather the security of a physical spare even if it is only a space saver. I’ve got a parts list. Just wondering if anyone has bothered. I nearly got caught out in the middle of Wales on a Sunday afternoon.

I brought an old alloy wheel for my clubvan and stupidly assumed it would fit. It doesnt. Does a space saver not just drop in like on the old classic minis?

The R56 kit looks a bit phaffy. You need to pack a large strong PVC bag to store a wet grimey punctured wheel inside the MINI.

I had a spacesaver spare that fitted fine on my R55 Clubman (slightly larger boot).

A good alternative is a tyre plug kit (although that won't help a shredded tyre).
