so in the mini goes as tyre pressure light is on, " ummmm you need tracking sir" £280 just got a call "got a nail in offside rear and the two fronts have worn on the wall so will need 3 tyres before tracking sir" at £155 +vat each.Told them to just wash it, car only just done 10k, so into my local ATS for a new tyre £130 (205x45-17) and £30 worth of tracking and swap tyres about, should do the trick

Don't bother with the run-flats at all, they're rubbish, even the tyre shop said so.

Just changed mine for 205/45 R17 Falken ZIEX all-round £280 for 4 tyres including fitting and balancing.

The transformation! No more tram-lining/wandering about the road/wheel spin, slightly softer ride and much quieter.

honestly, just do it you won't regret it-I thought about it for ages, in the end got two puntures in a month on the same wheel-cost nearly as much as a full set of the Falkens.

If you must have run-flats try Kumho Ecsta sport, £99 fitted and just as good as Pirelli etc in my opinion.

Who by? The person that wanted to sell you a ruin flat @ £130 per corner rather than a proper tyre @ £90 per corner?

As Raify has stated - utter rubbish. Ditch the RFTs, spend a few quid on Tyreweld if you're that worried and get some decent tyres on the car. Ever wondered why the M Division ditches the RFTs in favour of normal tyres?

My Run flats are about to need changing. - has anyone tried any other makes/types of normal tyre and had good results?

Does it effect warranty?

What puncture kit do you now use?

Go to Mini2.com and check the FAQ's I've been using Pirelli Pzero Assimetricos

Nope

You can get the official BMW kit (think they call it Mini mobility kit) or buy a compressor + tyre gunk from Halfrauds

Tyre choice is very subjective and depends not only on driving style but also the type of vehicle and the roads you drive on, however, I'd recommend GSD-3s and probably steer clear of Toyos. You may feel differently though.

what is the issue with the rim's not accepting normal tyres?
my fitter said he would be liable if there was an crash? - this is an independent fitter too...why would he say this as he has nothing to gain?

Possibly because he's mis-informed or there's additional margin to be made on RFTs? The rims are fine and will accept standard tyres so I cannot see how he would be liable, otherwise he'd have an indemnity policy that was so expensive it would put him out of business. If he'd have to accept liability in the even t of a crash by not fitting RFTs then he'd also have to accept liability in the event of fitting normal tyres not recommended by the OEM.

Ask yourself this, if RFTs are so good why has the M Division scrapped the RFTs normally fitted to Z4s and fitted standard tyres to my Z4M, as they do with all M cars?

Interesting. Mrs XXPLOD has just taken delivery of a new Cooper D with 17" wheels. Ride is harsh but the worst of it is the bump steer. It borders on the dangerous. Although I recognise that the problem is that 17" wheels are just too big for the car.
