intermitent oil pressure light

Has anyone experienced the oil pressure warning light flashing intermittent, happens when engine cold or hot. but sometimes OK for whole trip. If so any ideas to rectify the problem, it has been suggested that the sensor may be faulty but I suspect that may be expensive and may not be the cure. Thanks
