Is this a common problem - is it a problem?
When pulling away from a standstill there is a squeak from the front (possibly NS, possibly inside wheel?).
It sounds similar to a binding brake, only lasts a moment. Typically the hand brake is off. I suspect that it is mostly when moving away with some steering lock on, e.g. at a junction.

any ideas?

This sounds like the normal fault with the S

Does it do it just as your lifting the clutch and pull away? if it does then you have the flywheel and clutch fault

Its a bit of a squeek / grown which will get worse unless its something else.

Sounds like the normal clutch issue that does effect Cooper S Mini's it seems my wifes does it buyt only when it is cold from start up and not every time. Don't worry about it if it does get worse then take it to a dealer and argue the toss that it is a known fault..

I would just live with it my wife does and it does not effect the cars performance in anyway and the clutch is tight as a drum..
