Looking a convertible cooper S for the wife and as we will be buying it outright I'm keen to make sure what ever we buy is going to be "desirable" when we come to sell it on.

Dark silver is the safe choice I guess but what about the blue colours? I think it's called "cool blue" that she likes the look of?

Popular options - Dark Silver, Black or Pepper White

Cool Blue isn't a great seller...

British Racing Green and the shades of yellow will also struggle to be shifted. Cant go wrong with red, silver, black or white.

Good question, the wife had picked a purple one out and let's just say, I wasn't enthusiastic about it!

That colour wasnt around for very long If I recall, just like Silk Green and that gold colour - they didnt sell very well. I do know someone with BEP works S Cab, and its very nice indeed.

I really wanted one but they were pricey compared to other colours.
Whilst there were 180 ish of the usual colours on autotrader there was only 6 purple. Ive got one now though!

IIRC it was run for approx 12 months, so not quite as rare as Velvet Red, but I think it looks very smart. My Dad is looking at an MCS-C in Purple.

Ive always found cool blue to sell ok. Orange is a big no no as well as BRG and Yellow. Purple has always been a funny colour. But there is always a market for everything and a price for everything

We got the cool blue one in the end. It also has the blue hood and blue leather too. Collect it next Saturday.

That will be a tough one to shift on. But as said above, there is always someone who wants a convertible mini that is willing to compromise for the right price.

Well, it's a long time before I have to worry about that. I got the impression that it was a car the dealer had been waiting for (and in turn had people waiting for) as I called my local Mini dealer and asked them to get this car in for us. They came back saying the car was unavailable, but it turned out to be that the dealer who had the car wanted to sell it themselves and had people waiting for it.

Opposite here, I personally think its a nothing colour, and we have always struggled with them, even when we have had rare ones in.

I think it looks a bit wishy washy myself. Pepper White is the best in my book although that new yellow looks quite nice....

The best colour for a cooper S convertible is Hyper Blue.

Much better than cool blue and will not effect the resale value in a bad way.

Silver can be a safe option on many cars, but when it comes to a mini, most people want something a bit more funky.

Not strictly true.

Which part of this was not true?

That Hyper Blue is the best colour? I suppose I could have been lying! :P

Maybe Black is the best colour instead...

On a more serious note - Dark Silver is a popular colour being only available on the Cooper S models.

The standard silver colour is often a lot cheaper on the second hand forecourts. Which is why I say that silver is not a popular colour choice on Minis. If you dont believe me, then ask some other mini owners out there.

Statistically the most popular colour to spec a new shape mini was Red.
Silver was one of the least popular colours to spec, along with british racing green.

The car we ended up buying is "Astro Black" I think? Not too sure on the name but it is a metallic black.
There was a Gen1 car next to it which was described as Astro Black too but it seemed to have a touch more purple in it hence not being 100% on the names!

They did two blacks on the convertible Black II which was non metallic and Astro. The hatch they did 3 Cosmos and astro both metallic and Black II. Astro can look different colours in different lights
