Mini One rad leaking

My daughter has just told me that there is a pool of hot coolant under her Mini One (2002) and she thinks it is leaking from 'half way up' the left side of the rad.

Sounds like a split end of the rad core to me.

Is this a common prob and are there any things you can tell me before i order a new rad and set-to with the spanners?

Could the loss be from somewhere else at all for instance and just seems to be coming from that area? (hose/water pump etc)

You have all been a great help in the past and the bloody steering pump!
