I guess there's probably a thread (or several) on here with this, but a friend is looking for a Cooper, possibly Cooper S, with around £6k to spend. Seem to be plenty around at that price, but is there a "definitive" list of must-haves, e.g. chilli pack, aircon, leather, etc etc? Does the servicing pack extend to cars that old (I'm guessing it'll be c. 2002-2003 for that money)?

Thanks.

Hey bud. Sold my Cooper S at that money just two weeks ago.

The essentials are only:

- Chili pack (guarantees xenon, half leather, manual aircon)

Things that are nice to look for:

- TLC or TLC XL (this is almost essential tbh - TLC XL extends free servicing deal to 8yr or +25,000miles at time of 5yr)
- sunroof
- full leather
- bluetooth/ipod connections
- alloys that aren't the default heavy 17" ones
- aero body kit

Pointless things:

- BMW satnav
- runflat tyres

I would say beeej has pretty much covered it there.

The thing to consider with a mini is that spec sells the car, if your friend is not overly bothered with a aero body kit for example, but finds a motor with one on it then it may be a sensible idea to go with it for future resales purposes.

PS: I think the aero kit looks the nuts and even though hard to find it makes the car, especially on the R53 (origional Cooper S)

The only thing I would add to the above is full leather on the R53's I looked at was awful. Not very well made and looked saggy on even 3-4 year old cars let alone something 6-7 years old.

Runflats have to be the worst invention ever! They just ruin the ride and I can't wait to get them off our car.

Unless prices have dropped significantly, £6k is going to buy you a very good Cooper or the worst examples of a Cooper S.

That's great, just what I needed, thanks!
