Hi guys long time PH procrastinator but obviously noob on the posting front.

After a bit of a hot hatch drought i'm seriously considering a new mcs alongside the clio 200.

I've been offered a pretty good px price from my local mini dealer today and got some preliminary figures which seem ok.

I didn't really barter as i wasn't in a position in buy there and then and i tend to be of the opinion that you can't/shouldn't haggle if you can't say yes.

Knowledge is power apparently so i'm wondering if anyone's purchased one recently what discount did you get? It seems the days of £0 discount on mini's are over. Drive the deal are offering circa £1500 off but not really a fan of the whole buying on-line experience but is this realistic to expect a dealer to match.

Mini Cooper S

White with black wheels mirrors and roof
or Red with white roof wheels and mirrors.
Chilli Pack
Multi Function Steering wheel. - I want cruise control back in my life.
TLC.

Trying to keep the spec minimal as i change cars pretty often so i don't wanna piss loadsa money on option but any thoughts on that spec appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry going a bit overboard with the questions....

But what's the consensus on the wheels vs suspension set up.

I'm currently speccing the 17inch Crown's on normal suspension - i understand run flats are now an option which is good cos i don't think i want them.
I've read the sports suspension is too crashy is this correct? Will mainly be using it on A/M roads with the odd back country blasts where the roads will be far from smooth.

No idea about the discount - when I bought my JCW last year they weren't budging at all.

Suspension wise I have 17" challenge wheels and runflats and sports suspension - the best description i've heard is that it rides like a trolley jack......its brilliant when your pushing on - just a bit less than comfortable on the potholes / speed bumps of north london. That said we did 2500 miles in a week in it to the south of France with a lot of autoroute miles and it wasn't that bad.....

I think if I was speccing now i'd have sports suspension for the twisties, 17" wheels just to fill the arches and non runflats as a bit of a compomise.

Looking at a new one so it'd be the R56. Seems its not the purists weapon of choice, but the power delivery and economy suits me as I'll predominately be blasting up and down motorways.

Lol i'm not sure i'm up for the full on trolley jack experience. If it was a second car then yes but as its my only car its gonna 80% slog and 20% play.

I think you suggestion might be the way forward from what i understand run flats are now a cost option. So just stick with standard tyres 17's and sports suspension.

Thanks

Are run flats a cost option on the MCS too or just on the One and Cooper?

Was only a joking tongue out

Just thought i'd update. Managed to get a great deal on a factory build, put in a little bit of leg work and got a few prices from other dealers first then when back to the original guys and struck a deal. A 4 figure discount and top px valuation, well happy.

Just got to wait for it to arrive now.

Currently speced as follows:

Red with black roof
Chilli Pack with red part leather.
Flame alloy's 17 inch with non run flat tyres.
LSD
Multifunction Steering wheel.
Having massive deliberations over whether to spec sports suspension or not....currently not.

Will post pics come the end of sept, after some running in i've already got a little mini adventure over to evo triangle scheduled....can't wait.

Hope you got a good price for it - the deal I got offered on the JCW earlier this year was too hard to pass on!

The flame spoke wheels are a nice choice and stand out from the crowd who get the crown spoke ones because they're included in the Chili pack. Definitely choose the "normal" suspension though - I went for the "sport" option on my Cooper S and regretted it the whole time, the JCW's ride is much better!

Good news on the deal ! I would just check back with the dealer though. Slip diff is no longer an option from sept build onwards ( You cant get one at all ).

It is more than likely a built car sitting at a dealer rather than a factory build that they have told you.

Good luck

Sounds very similar to our old one, chilli red with black roof and stripes, flame alloys, part red leather, red colour line on dash.

When we traded it we were told that the black roof is easier to sell on than the white roof, but not sure if that is tripe or not biggrin

Agreed on the runflats, don't think you could choose when we got ours, but the one thing which spoiled it was the runflats, it hopped about everywhere! We did go to the South of France in it though, ~2,500 miles, and it coped admirably. Nice car indeed

Slip diff is still on the tick box of options for the copper S?

Hey thanks for the heads about this. I haven't had time to speak to the dealer since reading this as yet, will get round to it at somepoint.

In the meantime they've given me an order number, and i've changed the spec a few times but now been told its too late to make additional changes so coupled with the fact that its not arriving till the end of September i'm fairly happy its a factory order.

If the LSD becomes an issue i'll let you know but i would of thought they'd have phoned me by now if my order had gone wrong.

Slip Diffs have been deleted from septemeber production . you can only have it on a factory JCW car now .

Just ask for a spec print and it will tell you if your car has it or not

Dealer rang today to say the vehicle was in production and confirmed the spec, specifically the LSD. !?!?!
I already have a print out of the spec etc from the dealer on a order form which again lists the spec.

I guess i'll just have to wait and see. I don't really see that i can do anything else without effectively calling him a liar, which i don't want to do based on advice from a unknown source (no offence).

Hi,
No offence taken , I am the Brand Manager for a MINI Dealer . You will have one of the very last cars to be fitted with a LSD. So well done , as it has an order number the factory have confirmed that they will build the car . So you should have no problems .

Nice Spec , did you get a good deal ?
