Maximum Mileage on R53 cooper s works?
Discussion
I am looking for a cooper s works for the wife and have been looking at some on here and autotrader.
A number of them seem to be at 60-65K miles. What mileage can I expect to get from a r5?
Would you buy one that has covered 65k? #
Given that eveyone is selling them with this amount of mileage is there some expensive work that needs to be done at 70K???
Also if I did buy one and she put 20K more on (ie 80K) will it be worth anything and will she every be able to sell it?
Sorry for so many questions.

The engines should just keep going and going without any real trouble providing they have been looked after, BMW recommend a blower change after I think 100K, the engine has been seen at 250K with only servicing done. it is a strong engine on the R53.
Engines can be replaced for under £1000 at some mini specialists, with mine is just at 60K and apart from some play in the gear shifter pivot it still feels like it did new. I do track mine so it gets lots of services but also gets a spanking every so often
As the car has chain driving there is nothing required, just change the aux belt every year and you may want to change the bushes and spark plugs or at least check the conditions. Check the dash for service lights when you turn the key, on the main dial it will show a distance to the next service, but look for a small clock as this is the break fluid.
I wouldn't think an extra 20K would change it too much, but be aware that this car is very pricey to ensure, run and tax. Your potential resale will be hampered by that.
As with every car depending on what you pay now will determine what you will loose, I would advise that you look for one with as many JCW / dealer options as possible as this will help keep the value.

Mines at 57k and tight as a drum. Don't track it but its 'enthusiastically' used when the opportunity presents itself.
Echo the poster above, pay a decent amount for a well maintained example and the mileage shouldn't be a problem.
PS. I think you may be stealing it from the O/H once in a while. Its one of those cars that forces you to 'drive it' when your in it, and not just float along.....and personally I love that!
