Few JCW Questions
Discussion
Looking to make the jump soon as have a few test drives booked this weekend!
1. How come the dealer prices of JCW variants are hardly any cheaper than the same model specced to buy brand new? Is the demand/depreciation THAT good or is it dealer hype?
2. Any differences between a MY08 and MY09? Looking at black ones and is there much difference between Astro and Midnight Black?
3. Dechroming/colour coding? Easily done? Cheap? Taking of styling mods, have an idea for some vinyl decals, is it worth leaving it to the dealer to organise or any recommendations? (West London/Heathrow area)
4. HiFi option vs Harmon Kardon...any noticable difference? Lady at the snobby dealer today says no "real" differences, but I'm not so sure. HK available on Sept/Oct 09 deliveries (i.e. new).
5. Aftermarket Carbon Fibre interior bits.....worth going John Cooper or any other options?
6. Bit O/T bit of a dealer rant. Was at dealer today where the name is S.S. nr Virginia Water and had a snobby lady serve me. I really can't believe (going back to Question 1) that the price of 6-12m JCW are THAT strong that they only are offering a £500-1000 discount on the equiv car ordered brand new! Or am I missing something very obvious?
Cheers!
ETA another question...
7. Sports Suspension vs Normal.....worth going for this? I hear of the ride being harsh with the JCW Sports Suspension? Is it worth not going for? Car will be used as everyday rocket, mixed roads and motorways.

Hi ,
09 model year has changes to the front bumper , Parking sensors are now standard and an alcantara steering wheel was added .
Midnight black is such a nice colour , I prefer it to the old colour .
You will save about £3-4k on a Demo . Have a look at what dealer options the car has fitted .Deals on a new car are about £500-£1000 of list but expect a wait .
Harmon Kardon - is much better than Hi-fi speaker system . I wish I could of had Harmon but it wast available in March when my hatch came through. However the saving on a demo would pay for a nice install. Its not bad in fact its better than most , Its just not as good as Harmon Kardon
Sports suspension is fine for me , Try it out . Berry at Heathrow run a Massive Spec Demo give it a go . Speak to Anthony he sold me Mine .

I thought the JCW suspension was supposed to be pretty good? It certainly got decent reviews when fitted on the R53.7. Sports Suspension vs Normal.....worth going for this? I hear of the ride being harsh with the JCW Sports Suspension? Is it worth not going for? Car will be used as everyday rocket, mixed roads and motorways.
The 'Sports suspension +' option however is pretty damn hard (on an R53) but is certainly easy to live with on a day to day basis.

To answer my own questions for anybody else interested....
1. JCW Prices..due to simple supply demand issues
2. The MY09 has a few extras as standard eg parking sensors etc and more options ie Harmon Kardon...see post above. Astro vs Midnight, Astro is more of a multicoloured black, in the sun it had shades of dark blue whereas Midnight is more of a deep black, almost didn't look metallic.
3. Dechroming....found a US company that can either paint your own or paint a set and send it..http://www.lylesvinylstyles.net/
4. HiFi....didn't hear the HK but the other option isn't that bad, I've heard worse.
5. Carbon FIbre....JCW stuff can be retrofitted, just a bit ££
6. Went to a dealer oooop north, lovely boys and girls
7. Test drove a JCW with standard (read Cooper S) suspension and no strut brace....I'm no Stig but for the drive it seems quite tight and comfortable. Maybe time will tell!
Did I buy it? Not yet! Going to sleep on it and decide tomorrow! Absolutely quick and fun pocket rocket and I'm very tempted!
