I apologise because I daresay this had come up before. I'm thinking of buying a MINI First but it's not even worth test driving if you can't get a mountain bike in the back fairly easily without having to dismantle it.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

James

You'll have to dismantle it unfortunately. I've put mine in the Mini but had to take the wheels off, there's no way the full bike would have fit in.

I'd be hesitant to try and fit one in even if you take the wheels out. You interior would need protecting at least.

I have the MINI roof bars and Thule racks for our MCS. Much easier.

Thanks chaps that's just what I needed to know. The car is outside our price range anyway being realistic.

The car would be for my wife's commute (drive halfway, cycle the rest) and we don't want to be faffing with cycle carriers twice each day.

Small cars with character but with a boot large enough for a bike are hard to find...

I do this quite regularly, a large mountain bike will fit if you take off the wheels and the seatpost.
You need to be very careful loading and unloading though to prevent damage to the interior, in particular the headlining.
It's a bit of a faff but not too hard. Plus you can still carry a front seat passenger.

They do fit, but you'll need to remove both wheels. Had a bit of fun getting a bike with large metal mudguards in mine recently, in the end I bent the mudguard so that I could close the tailgate (it bent back easily).
