Hi All

Power steering rears it's ugly head again.

It's finally given up the ghost on my 53 plate Cooper S.

I read up on this forum and have seen people getting it fixed for 10p - £400. My dealer, BMW Battersea, has offered to pay 50% of the price of the part (part costs £450). Not as good a deal as others on the forum have had. In addition I've been told the power steering hoses need replacing too. The hoses cost £350. Are they made of gold? All in looking at £820 inc labour. Can anyone tell me of the prices they've had from their dealers on this issue? I need to go back to BMW with details of which dealers have paid 80% of the costs etc, as I'm sure I'm being hauled over the coals a bit here...

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

Sorry mate can't help with prices but the guys over at www.totalmmini.com/forum will know a few things about it. There is a whole thread dedicated to the power steering pump failing.

Out of interest, what mileage were you on when it went bang?

Had mine replaced on a 2004 MCS; BMW picked up 50% of the cost as goodwill - cost me £350 all in

Had mine replaced on 2004 MCS after 26,000 miles. BMW picked up the tab - but I am/ was a loyal customer having bought two Minis from them....

Cheers all. I don't think it helps that my car is now long out of warranty and has done 69k miles, so just going to bite the bullet and foot the bill. The joy of performance(ish) motoring!

What sort of noise is it making?

A couple of weeks ago my power steering completely stopped working. No warning lights on the dash or anything; just stopped.

Called the AA and the first guy couldn't fix it so arranged a pick up. Pick up guy arrived and checked two differnt connections and it suddenly woke up again and had no problems since.

Mine has 69k on it too weirdly...
