Engine light- what could it be?????
Discussion
Evening All,
Coming home earlier in the evening, the engine light came on in my Mini Cooper S (R56). The engine light in question is the one that is half shaded and amber in color. Has anybody had this light come on before if you have had a Mini? What could the fault be?
As soon as I could I pulled over and read the book to find that it was fine to drive but with care. So I did and parked it on the drive, left it for 30 odd minutes with the hope that the system would reset itself. This did not happen, the light is still on and Amber. So I called and they suggested that they could send someone out, I asked if they would have a diagnostics computer; for thisI will have to wait until tomorrow so they are coming out then.
Have any past or present Mini owners suffered this light? What has it been for you and how long did this take to repair? Was there any cost attached or was it warranty?
Thanks in advance for the advice,
Andy

The light comes on when the computer detects a problem that could affect the emissions. It could be anything from a sensor giving out an implausible signal to a problem with the catalyst and more. To give you an idea, some software that we use is capable of reading over 13000 codes across all the systems. With the light coming on, there will be a stored code which may point directly to the fault or be symptomatic of the fault.
